  • Bureau Veritas certifies Alpi’s wood processing plants in Cameroon Print Page Tell Friend

The Alpi Group is a global company with headquarters in Italy. It has worked with the Tropical Forest Trust (TFT) since March 2007 on the Timber Trade Action Plan (TTAP). Financed by the European Union, the project aims to develop sustainable forestry practices and reduce trade in illegal timber, which is a huge problem for wood producing countries such as Cameroon.

The Alpi Group and TFT have developed a comprehensive programme of technical, social and management initiatives to ensure the legality and traceability of wood. These measures have now been implemented by all Alpi's production plants in Cameroon.

    Committed to excellence
The Alpi Group takes its responsibility towards the environment very seriously. Scott Poynton, executive director of TFT explains: "This certification demonstrates Alpi's determination to reach standards of excellence in sustainable forestry management."

Vittorio Alpi, managing director of the Alpi Group tells us: "We are committed to achieving concrete, measurable results and the OLB certification clearly shows this. Our products are sold worldwide. Thanks to this certification, we can guarantee that Alpi wood conforms to various import standards such as those in the US Lacey Act and the EU's Forest Law, Enforcement, Governance and Trade action plan."

Delivering the OLB certification is a great example of how Bureau Veritas is helping its clients to show their environmental credentials to the world.
