ShafTest® for In-service Wind Turbine Main Shaft
In Zhenjiang Province, June, 2010, one of the wind farms had a cracking No. 14 main shaft, its blades and hubs wrecked from falling off the wind turbine. The Client asked Bureau Veritas(BV) to inspect the remaining 32 wind turbines.
As requested by client, BV inspectors examined and monitored the condition of the main shafts of the other 32 wind turbines using Bureau Veritas ShafTest® technology.

- The wind turbine operation was only suspended for 1-2 hours, and Bureau Veritas did not need to disassemble the main shaft. ShafTest® results can be fully analyzed away from the test shaft to minimize disruption and reduce equipment downtime.
- Cracking defects were detected on only two wind turbines. The results proved to be accurate after disassembling the main shaft
